It’s nice to meet you.
My name is Debbie and I’m a backup singer. I am a backup singer because I have never enjoyed the spotlight that center stage requires. I dabbled in it during the 20+ years I spent singing in front of hundreds and thousands of people, but I realized that my best position is actually right next to it – the backup singer. The soloist can’t be as successful alone as they are with the accompaniment, and I don’t have to act like someone I’m not.
Although I no longer get behind the mic I will never forget the valuable lessons I learned from that experience – understanding the push and pull between desire versus capability (aka, reality) – only to learn that capability turns into desire when its harnessed appropriately. Conceptually, this is where Behind the Scenes was born. I have found that knowing my place in a particular situation – and why it makes sense to be in that place – has helped me unlock many successes along my life’s journey.
Being the backup singer has allowed me to learn from some of the public and private sector’s most accomplished executives, musical solo artists, and many other top performers at all levels of their careers. Understanding where I fit, why I do, and how to capitalize on it has helped me build a successful 25+ year career, identify and build a beautiful life, and it’s helped me avoid puking due to stage fright before a live show.
Today my biggest joy is when I have the opportunity to help someone else understand themselves better by taking the time to really focus in on what makes them unique and valuable. My hope is to do more of the same with you as we explore and unleash your inner Rock Star!
